When I think of abundance and resolutions now, it is a bit different than it was three years ago. Meaning, I better accept what is possible and sustainable throughout a year instead of sabotaging myself. I focus on intent rather than goals. I set a direction and work toward it one step, one day, at a time. I allow for imperfection. I keep going. I clarify what is and is not important to my yearly intent. The outcome is that my weight management stabilized and my capacity to accomplish more is developing.

For example, let’s say that I buy a beautiful holiday outfit on an after-holiday discount. It is one size too small, but it is a show stopper. Since I have 350 days until the next holiday season, I need to release 10 pounds before then to wear that outfit.

Okay, that is one small change each day throughout the year. Let’s say, a calorie deficit of around 100 calories (a 20-minute walk, one less dollop of butter or salad dressing, etc.). No other changes needed. Viola, in 350 days, I’m wearing that outfit.

So, this year I focus on knowing what I want to claim for my annual abundance. The trick to such clarification is enduring or staying motivated. How do I intend know what I want and then endure to claim it? Well, as a behavioral and management scientist, I have a few academically-sound techniques. However, simply put, I need actions that are sustainable. From experience, I currently use this mixture.

  1. A vision board, journal, and/or tracking devices that stimulate the senses to clarify and focus on the benefit(s) of an intent. Over time, the intent may change, so I stay flexible with the smaller steps that contribute to the broader desire. This year, my broader desire or passion is living all in with wellness. That gives me a general vision to work toward. The smaller steps, or mission, is how I get there.
  2. A support group that reinforces the intent and steps with fun activities and networking.
  3. Daily rewards to keep the pleasure centers of my brain supportive.
  4. Creatively planning activities. Most especially, planning for challenging situations.
  5. Including friends and family in the fun and paying it forward with random acts of kindness every chance that I get. That grounds me and keeps my focus on the deeper meaning or why of living all in with wellness.

There is a world full of abundance that we can resolve to claim! May each of us find one thing that is deeply important to us. May we then take action, stay focused, and endure as we actualize and/or manifest our preferred outcome!!
